A la hora de aventurarse en altamar con un sentimiento de glamour de otras épocas, navegar en el buque que perteneció a la Princesa Grace de Mónaco es una experiencia que no debe dejarse pasar. El buque establecido en las aguas de las islas Galápagos, tiene mucha historia para contar.
La historia del M/Y Grace es como salida de una película; originalmente pertenecía a un magnate argentino que lo usaba para viajes personales alrededor del Atlántico. Luego, el Grace fue contratado por el Gobierno Británico para realizar misiones durante la II Guerra Mundial, incluso alojó a Winston Churchill cuando visitó los barcos de guerra británicos en el Mediterráneo. Pasada la guerra, el buque fue comprado por Aristóteles Onassis (el segundo esposo de la ex-primera dama de los Estados Unidos, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis), permaneciendo en su poder varios años hasta que fue remodelado y dado como regalo de bodas al Príncipe Rainier y Grace Kelly en 1956. Durante años, la Princesa Grace usó el buque, para entretener a invitados importantes del Principado con días de excursión en el Mediterráneo, así como para pasar las festividades con la familia navegando entre la Riviera Francesa y la Riviera Italiana.
Luego de surcar las aguas con elegancia y glamour, el Principado de Mónaco vendió el barco a un hombre de negocios, que a su vez lo vendió a un propietario privado en El Caribe. Por décadas, fue llamado el Zein, un nombre poco elegante y que hace languidecer en la oscuridad el fabuloso pasado del Grace. Por suerte, en 2006 el yate fue adquirido por Quasar Expeditions, una pequeña compañía de aventura con itinerarios en Ecuador, Perú y La Patagonia, pero especializados en expediciones en Las Galápagos.
La dueña de Quasar Expeditions, Dolores Diez, dice: “Cuando lo compramos, el trabajo de restauración fue intensivo. Trabajamos para devolverle su antiguo esplendor… Usamos los planos originales para el casco y las áreas técnicas, y tomamos en cuenta su apariencia anterior, pero usamos materiales modernos para proporcionarle los últimos requisitos sobre seguridad y hacerlo más amigable con el medio ambiente”.
El resultado fue todo un triunfo, el interior de la embarcación es pulido y prístino, donde los lugares comunes fluyen sin esfuerzo de un espacio a otro. Es un yate moderno con un diseño atemporal.
Cada viaje está lleno de aventuras, estas incluyen tours en kayak, snorkel y paseos guiados por naturalistas para avistar lagartos monitores gigantes o Boobies patas azules. Debido al tamaño del Grace la experiencia se convierte en íntima y personal, haciéndote pensar que una vez la mujer más elegante del mundo hizo exactamente lo mismo que tú en ese momento.

The story of the M/Y Grace is something out of a movie; originally it belonged to an Argentine magnate who used it for personal trips around the Atlantic. Then, the Grace was hired by the British Government to carry out missions during World War II, including hosting Winston Churchill when he visited the British warships in the Mediterranean. After the war, the ship was bought by Aristotle Onassis (the second husband of former United States’s first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis), remaining in his power for several years until it was remodeled and given as a wedding gift to Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly in 1956. For years, Princess Grace used the ship, to entertain important Principality guests with excursion days in the Mediterranean, as well as to spend the holidays with her family sailing between the French Riviera and the Italian Riviera.
After sailing the waters with elegance and glamour, the Principality of Monaco sold the boat to a businessman, who in turn sold it to a private owner in the Caribbean. For decades, it was called the Zein, an inelegant name that languishes in the dark the fabulous past of the Grace. Luckily, in 2006 the yacht was acquired by Quasar Expeditions, a small adventure company with itineraries in Ecuador, Peru and La Patagonia, but specialized in expeditions in the Galapagos.
The owner of Quasar Expeditions, Dolores Diez, says: “When we bought it, the restoration work was intensive. We work to restore its former splendor … We use the original plans for the hull and the technical areas, and we consider its previous appearance, but we use modern materials to provide the latest safety requirements and make it more environmentally friendly. ”
The result was a triumph, the interior of the boat is polished and pristine, where the common places flow effortlessly from one space to another. It’s a modern yacht with a timeless design.
Each trip is full of adventures, these include kayak tours, snorkeling and guided tours by naturalists to spot giant monitors lizards or blue footed Boobies. Due to the size of the Grace the experience becomes intimate and personal, making you realize that once one of the most elegant woman in the world did the same as you at that moment.
